Pastor Samuel's Water Pipe: Faith That Keeps Flowing

When we think about ministry, we often picture a pastor standing behind a pulpit or preaching to a crowd. But in many parts of the world, ministry often looks very different.

For Pastor Samuel in Laos, ministry began with something as ordinary as a water pipe.

Samuel serves in a rural village where following Jesus comes with a cost. Christians often face pressure from village leaders, social rejection, and the possibility of losing their livelihoods. Yet instead of allowing those challenges to discourage him, Samuel looked for practical ways to demonstrate Christ’s love to his neighbours.

One of the greatest needs in his community was access to clean water.

With the support of fellow believers and a heart to serve, Samuel helped install a water pipe that brought fresh water to families in his village. It wasn’t a large construction project or a public event. It was simply a quiet act of compassion.

But God used that simple act in remarkable ways.

As people came to collect water, relationships began to form. Neighbours asked why Samuel was willing to serve people who sometimes opposed his faith. Those conversations opened doors to share the Gospel and explain the love of Jesus.

This is the heart of ministry throughout Laos.

Church planting isn’t only about gathering believers together on Sundays. It is about living the Gospel every day. National church planters care for practical needs, build trust within their communities, and faithfully share the hope they have found in Christ.

That faithful witness is producing lasting fruit.

Across Laos, the Gospel continues to spread through rural villages and among many tribal communities. Although some believers face harassment, church closures, or pressure to renounce their faith, they continue to stand firm. New churches are being planted, lives are being transformed, and the Church continues to grow.

Pastor Samuel’s story reminds us that God often works through ordinary acts of obedience.
