From Darkness to Light: A Hindu Priest Encounters Jesus
God’s power is moving among the people of India.
In a small village in the state of Odisha, a church recently held an all-night prayer vigil. The congregation spent hours worshipping and calling out to God. As they sang and praised, Peter, a man from the village, took notice.
Something about the church drew him in. Peace and hope seemed to pour from its very walls. The voices singing inside carried a joy and love he had never encountered before. It mesmerized him.
Peter couldn’t understand how these people could be so content. His own life had been void of such emotion for as long as he could remember.
As the night carried on, he moved closer to the church, still watching, still listening. The Holy Spirit was whispering to his heart.
Soon, he was overcome with emotion. He found himself clapping along with the singing, drawn in by something he couldn’t explain. He wanted what these Christians had. He craved the peace flowing from their souls.
Then, the pastor stood and began to read from the Bible.
His message pierced Peter’s heart like a fiery arrow.
A Life-Altering Decision
After the service, Peter introduced himself to the pastor. He was no ordinary villager — he was the main Hindu priest in the village.
Not only that, but he was also a spiritual Hindu doctor, someone who believed that health and wellness depended on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.
Yet despite his achievements, Peter confessed, “I have no peace. I have no joy.”
The pastor shared the Truth of Jesus with him, and in that moment, Peter surrendered his life to Christ.
But it didn’t stop there. His entire family followed his example. They abandoned Hinduism and embraced the Gospel.
A Ripple Effect in the Village
Peter’s transformation shook the entire village.
People took notice. More and more villagers began coming to the church, drawn by the same peace and joy that had captured Peter’s heart.
The light of Christ was spreading, breaking through the cracks and crevices of hardened hearts, allowing the Holy Spirit to do His work.
“How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound, O Lord, they walk in the light of Your countenance.”

Peter had never known true peace or joy — until that night.
Now, renewed and transformed, he walks in the light of the Lord’s countenance.
