Former Sheik Meets Jesus
Mohammed was only seven years old when he was sent away from his home in Ethiopia to another country to study the Quran. He spent 15 years as a student learning all he could about his religion. He joined a Mosque and taught with unmatched zeal. “I was passionate about Islam,” he said, “I wanted nothing to do with Christians, and any time I was approached by one I simply ignored them and wished for them to leave,” Mohammed recalls. Then one night he had a dream. “I saw a man standing before me. He was kind and gentle, but he told me I was not teaching the truth. He told me verses in the Quran that pointed to the real Truth. The next morning, Mohammed checked the verses and realized they were all about Jesus. He thought the devil was leading him astray and so he prayed for strength and tried to forget. For one week he had absolutely no peace. He was unsettled in his spirit but didn’t know what to do to soothe the unrest. Mohammed resisted the dream and the man’s message but all his passion and zeal for Islam was gone as well. He felt nothing. Once again, he had a dream, but this one had a lasting impact. “The man was there once more,” he said, “But this time he was serious. He told me I would die if I didn’t follow him. I couldn’t shake off the vision and I couldn’t forget his words,” said Mohammed. “I told the other leaders teaching in the mosque that I could no longer lead the prayer.” A Christian came to him and asked, “Why do you look so sad?” Mohammed didn’t want to speak to him, he felt hatred in his heart because he knew the man was a believer. But he told him about his dreams, hoping for some measure of peace in return. The Christian said to Mohammed, “The man in your dreams is Jesus.” “I resisted that at first and became very angry but I couldn’t ignore what I was feeling. We went to see a Sheik that had given his life to Christ. He began to show me verses in the Bible, the same ones the man in my dream had shown me, and I was amazed.”
Mohammed put his trust in the Lord that day and became a believer. The moment he accepted Jesus all his fear was gone and peace, like he had never known before, was filling his heart. He experienced great persecution. His family chased him from his home. They stabbed him, trying their best to kill him, but he had a new passion, one that could not be taken away. He wanted to serve Jesus and tell others the Truth. Mohammed is using the Bible to reach people for the Kingdom and God is using him in mighty ways to open doors. Already, 70 Muslims have become believers through his teaching.
Psalm 119: 30 says: I have chosen the faithful way, I have placed your ordinances before me.
The Truth was presented to Mohammed and he chose to follow Jesus despite the cost.
