Wayward Son Finds Jesus

Cuba has struggled with high poverty levels countrywide for decades and lately, the situation has become much more severe. Men struggle to care for their families and sadly, many times end up leaving them behind as they search for better lives. Those that stay are often abusive to their wives and children, however, when husbands and families living in these conditions come to know the Lord, everything changes as the Holy Spirit transforms them from within. This is exactly what happened to a young man named David who ran away from home when he was only a teenager. David’s father was a cruel man who violently mistreated his son daily. Having no other role model in his life, when he was on his own, he searched for ways to follow in his father’s footsteps rather than become a better man. He started dealing drugs and soon married a young girl. They both were teenagers, but that didn’t prevent him from mistreating his new bride in the same poor manner his father treated his mother. David didn’t realize that shortly after he ran away from home, his father accepted Christ. He repented of his sinful behavior and began to pray desperately for his son. Soon after getting married, David began experimenting with witchcraft, and one day after months of dabbling in the occult, he felt a breeze blowing on his back. When he turned around, he saw an angel standing before him. It was a shock and quite disturbing and when he relayed what he saw to others in the satanic group, they exclaimed that the devil had rejected him. David was confused why such a thing would happen and he decided to go home and visit his parents hoping they might have some answers for him. His mother and father were overjoyed to see their son and welcomed him with open arms. The change David witnessed in his father was so surprising, he agreed to go to church with him. After listening to the pastor preach, the entire congregation began praying for David but when they gathered around and laid hands on him he went into a full rage with a shocking display of dark supernatural power that left everyone speechless. He ran from the church and returned to his wife, where he immediately returned to his old ways of drugs, stealing, and gambling. David’s parents and his church did not give up though. They continued to pray for him and his wife, believing the Lord would release them from Satan’s grip. The church’s determination and commitment to his wellbeing had a profound effect on the couple. In time, David and his wife were set completely free. He repented of his sinful past and gave his life to the Lord. Today, David is a worship leader and he and his wife serve faithfully in that same church that prayed fervently for his salvation.

In Deuteronomy 7:9, we read: Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His faithfulness to a thousand generations for those who love Him and keep His commandments.

Before David knew the Lord, his life was full of darkness and despair. But his pain did not go unnoticed by God. The Lord’s faithfulness changed David’s life and put him on a path to righteousness.
